Colistin is available from Bacillus polymyxa var. It is a white crystalline powder extracted and purified from the culture solution of Colistinus. Bacitracin is a strain of Bacillus subtilis var. A white to light brown powder extracted from Tracy's culture medium, which has an antibacterial spectrum similar to that of penicillin and is effective against most Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria.
